Using a Wall Mount or a TV Stand: Which One Works Best for You?

August 20, 2020

Thanks to advances in technology, TVs are becoming thinner and lighter, making it easier to use wall mounts. Many TVs are designed to be wall-mounted, with pre-made holes in the back for attaching to mounts and brackets. But there is always the big question while setting up a new home entertainment center: should I use a wall mount or a tv stand?

The answer to that question relies solely on your needs and what you want to achieve within your space. Wall mounts have numerous advantages; however, there are several factors you should take into consideration before deciding which one to use.

Check out the advantages and disadvantages of each one to help you make a better choice.

Wall Mount

Advantages

The best benefit of using a wall mount is the space it saves. While using a TV mount, the TV is secured so close to the wall that it hardly takes any extra space allowing you to free up some floor space.

Wall-mounted TVs are a great accessory to give space a modern and stylish look. The wires can be hidden, eliminating clutter and providing an elegant finish to the room.

While a lot of people might think that TV mounts are hard to install, in reality, it is much easier than you could imagine. A step-by-step guide will come with the mount. Just make sure to follow the instructions to guarantee safety.

TV mounts are also beneficial if you want to reduce the chances of eye and neck strain. You can achieve an optimal viewing point attaching the screen at the most convenient height.

Disadvantages

One possible downside of a TV mount is that it might take a little more work setting things up than a TV stand. However, as mentioned before, you can always follow the step by step guide that comes with the mount, or you could hire someone to do the job for you. If you choose to hire someone to install the mount for you, it will result in an extra expense, which could be another disadvantage.

If you live near a place with a lot of vibration, such as railway stations or an area with a lot of building work and the TV or the mount is not well secured to the wall, it could cause an expensive incident.

If placed at the wrong height, it can be uncomfortable and prejudicial for your health to watch the TV. When mounting a TV, you need to consider the nearby windows to avoid direct sunlight.

Another disadvantage of TV mounts is that once the mount is on the wall, it takes more work to rearrange or change the setting of the room as mounting a TV will require drilled holes on the wall.

TV Stand

Advantages

The main advantage of having a TV stand is that it is likely to come with additional storage options which can be practical. You could choose from a variety of design and price point. An attractive design with enough room for any other component you might have.

A TV stand also guarantees easy access to cables and sockets in case you need to change them. Moving the TV from one place to another also becomes easier with a stand.

Disadvantages

TV stands take up more space than TV mounts. If you have space restrictions, a wall mount would be better for you. Another disadvantage of stands is that TVs are less secured, making it more prompt to accidents such as the TV falling if someone knocks them.

High quality good looking TV stands can be alot pricier compared to a TV Mount. TV Stand does not fix the issues of different viewing angles nor the reflection problem.
